Little Simz - Far Away Review and Meaning

Updated: Mar 8

Far Away by Little Simz is a much more slower track than we're used to from Drop 7, however through this it gives a perfect ending to the EP with a cathartic ending to the journey. The instrumental on this track are amazing, from slow pianos to the bass kicking halfway through with some horn licks. The whole EP has amazing production and performances from Little Simz but Far Away stands out due to the difference in nature to most of Simz music.

How is Far Away By Little Simz Different?

Far Away unfolds a raw and unfamiliar side of Little Simz. Gone are the aggressive bars and sharp social commentary; instead, we encounter a deeply regretful narrator haunted by memories of a lost love. Simz's emotional vulnerability is palpable, evident in the lyrics "a little bit ashamed, I wasn't there for ya" and the repeated yearning for the past. This introspective shift showcases her artistic versatility and emotional range.

Far Aways Instrumentals

Fat Aways laid-back R&B production perfectly mirrors the introspective lyrics. The smooth piano licks set a melancholy tone, while the subtle bass kick hints at simmering regret. The horns, instead of adding a triumphant flourish, create a bittersweet atmosphere, reminiscent of faded memories. The decision to not "explode" in the latter half emphasizes the song's somber mood, opting for a gentle yet impactful coda. This musical minimalism amplifies the raw emotions conveyed through the lyrics.

Far Away Is A Plea for Letting Go:

While the chorus appears selfless, urging the ex to move on and find peace, it's also laced with self-punishment. Lines like "can't bear to see your tears" and "you found peace, you don't see" suggest Simz struggles with accepting her role in the relationship's demise. The repeated "don't wait around for me" is both an admission of guilt and a reluctant goodbye, acknowledging the ex's right to happiness even if it means enduring their own pain.

This track offers a stark contrast to Simz's usual fiery persona. Instead of social commentary or witty lyricism, "Far Away" focuses on personal reflection and emotional vulnerability. This stylistic shift might surprise some fans, but it also demonstrates her growth as an artist willing to explore different facets of her identity and artistic expression.

"Far Away" is a testament to Little Simz's emotional depth and artistic versatility. It delves into regret, vulnerability, and self-reflection, all wrapped in a sonically melancholic yet captivating soundscape. While it might not be the typical Simz track, it stands as a powerful showcase of her emotional range and ability to connect with listeners on a deeply personal level.

Little Simz Far Away Meaning

Little Simz's "Far Away" is a powerful exploration of regret and lost love. The song opens with a bittersweet longing for happier times, acknowledging mistakes made and opportunities missed. Shame and self-blame weave through the lyrics, as the narrator grapples with their absence and its impact on the relationship.

Despite the pain, the chorus takes a selfless turn. "Don't wait around for me," Simz pleads, believing their partner deserves happiness and peace, even if it means pushing them away. This heartbreaking sentiment is laced with the hope that their partner finds fulfilment, even if it comes at the cost of their own lingering ache.

The bridge reveals the internal conflict beneath the surface. The haunting question "Why did I just let you get away?" exposes the torment of unanswered questions and lost possibilities. Simz masterfully captures the struggle between letting go and the pull of love deeply embedded in the past.

Little Simz Far Away Lyrics

[Verse 1]

I would give all for the days

Memories we made

I'm a little bit ashamed

I wasn't there for ya

[Pre-Chorus]

And now my pillow recalls your name

From the middle of the night, through the day

I would give all

[Chorus]

Don't wait around for me, my baby

Can't bear to see your tears, my darlin'

If you wait around for me, my baby

You found peace, you don't see

[Verse 2]

If I could do it again

I won't hesitate

I guess I'm the fool to blame

'Cause I wasn't there for ya

[Pre-Chorus]

And now my pillow recalls your name

From the middle of the night, through the day

I would give all

I would give all

[Chorus]

Don't wait around for me, my baby

Can't bear to see your tears, my darlin'

If you wait around for mе, my baby

You found peace, you don't see

[Bridge]

This was special, vеry special

Why did I just let you get away?

Far away

This was special, very special

Why did I just let you get away?

Far away

[Chorus]

Don't wait around for me, my baby (Why did I just let you get away?)

Can't bear to see your tears, my darlin' (Far away)

If you wait around for me, my baby (Why did I just let you get away?)

You found peace (Far away)
