Boygenius Announce The Record

Updated: Jan 30

For anyone who’s been living under a rock over the past couple of weeks the emo supergroup Boy Genius comprised of the great Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus recently graced us with 3 singles and teased a new record. Literally titled The Record which is releasing on the 31st of March.⁣

Since their self titled released in 2018 each individual member has been on a journey of their own, we see this in the instrumentation that’s now seeping into tracks like $20 from this EP which reflects Julien Bakers evolution of Little Oblivions from Turn Off The Lights.⁣

On these three tracks we get a wide array of emotions being showcased at different speeds and each member gets a chance to shine their vocals.⁣

Emily I’m Sorry is a track that Phoebe brings in those sullen notes that we’ve come to know her for that’s accentuated perfectly by the rest of the band.⁣

$20 is primarily Julien's track which is quite catchy and fun compared to what I’ve known from her and being backed up by gang vocals just makes this a joy to listen to.⁣

True Blue is a track where Lucy gets to showcase her vocal range, this song just sounds so full and well produced whilst Dacus brings nonchalance to the track yet explores this interpersonal space between overwhelmed and numbness.⁣

Honestly, I’m so glad this band is back and I can’t wait for the rest of the record to be released on March 31st.⁣
