@baxterdury , son of the great Ian Dury released an album this year called The Night Chancers, and there’s a song on that I can’t get out of my head. I’m Not Your Dog.
I just need to point out how Baxter sounds so much like his dad, it’s almost a continuation of Ian’s work in some aspect, having that creative, cockney poetic spoken word, that creates a very dull /introspective outlook, whilst dark synthesizers pulse through the song being carried by a short string section.
The song feels claustrophobic, but gives itself a tonne of space. Baxters lyrical musings here can be seen as a criticism to the way people behave on social media.
“I'm not your fucking friend
Trying to be though
Trying to feel it
Trying to be it
Ce n'est pas mon problème
Je ne suis pas ton chien
I’ve been following you everywhere
Some people like to show
Some people like to watch
I watch a bit too much
You show too much
Ce n'est pas mon problème
Je ne suis pas ton chien”
Take a listen to this track and let me know what you think.
